This Is What Happened
“Strange Jazz Universe” was birthed in 1996 as a Miles Davis 70’s Electric Tribute Band for about 9 years. Miles is someone I would have loved to work with but Miles passed in 1991. I'll never get that gig. So I'll do it myself.
Toward the end 2004 for I began to insert some of my own original music into our sets and one of my band mates (Louis VanTaylor) sternly said to me "This is what you should be doing, Playing your own music!"
He was right. And from 2005 til the present I've been doing just that.
Since 2005 Strange Jazz Universe has released 5 projects.

Livin' In America...
Jam- I grew up in the 60's as a Rocker.
Jazz- In college I began to study Jazz
Funk / R&B- I had the the opportunity to tour and perform with The Temptations, The Supremes, Gladys Knight, Randy Crawford, Jody Watley, Gary Bartz & J*Davey. I've recorded with Howard Hewitt, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, John Beasley, Diana Ross, Johnny Gill, Rocky Robbins, Dr. Helen Baylor, Stanley Clarke, Thundercat, and Kamasi Washington.
